DO

• TURN THE WATER OFF at the source (washer, faucet, toilet, water filtration system) or at the main shut off valve to the whole house if you see you have an active water leak or hear the water running. Or if all else fails, turn off the main valve at the meter pit (usually in the front yard). If you cannot find it or reach the valve or the pit is full of water, call the Indianapolis Water Company emergency number 631-1431 for emergency shut off.
• Call an experienced structural dry-out specialist such as A&D Hydra Clean. Please call right now to speak with an A&D Technician -- on call 24 hours a day with an average response time of one hour or less from the time you call.
  
• Call your insurance company to report the loss and initiate the claim. The majority of insurance companies have 1-800 numbers you can call 24 hours a day to report the loss. (Click here to for further insurance recommendations) (Link to Page #6 Insurance recommendations)
• Take initial photos to visually record “fresh” damage. We will also be taking pictures upon our arrival and throughout the dry-out and reconstruction process. If taking pictures requires wading through standing water wait until we arrive. We will take the photos for you and supply a disk of pictures for you and your insurance adjustor.

DON'T

• Attempt to enter a flooded basement when there is standing water. Due to risk of electric shock, extension cords laying in the water, electronics on the floor, appliances standing in water, especially water levels above the wall outlets all present serious safety issues. – Another good reason to call A&D Hydra Clean. We come prepared to safely handle those situations.

• Delay in calling a water damage professional such as A&D Hydra Clean. Our free advice over the phone can be invaluable. • Assume areas are dry from visual appearance. Porous materials (hardwood, wood structure, framing, subfloor, drywall, padding, etc.) soak up moisture and can stay wet for days and retain damaging moisture for long periods of time. State-of-the-art moisture sensors, meters, and Thermo Imaging cameras aid us in determining what is wet, how wet, and what measures we need to take to restore structure to normal pre-loss condition.
